Corbin's first Trophy

Steve and Corbin decided to enter a car in the Awana Grand Prix this year.  They received a car that was just wood cut in the rough shape of a car.  Their task was to sand it, smooth it out, design it and make it fast.  They could win prizes for the fastest car as well as the best design.

So for about a week they dedicated their evenings to making this car the best they could.  It was really fun for them.  Corbin got to learn how to use some power tools and learn how to spray paint.  He also got to exercise his creativity and help create designs for the car.

It was a real bonding time for Steve and Corbin and I am so grateful for this opportunity.  Corbin looks up to his Dad and they were able to really spend some awesome quality time together though this.

Here is the finished product.  I thought they really did a nice job.

On the morning of the race the boys woke up early and went and got hot chocolate and then went to church to participate in the races.  I was not sure if I was going to go because I was feeling sick.  I ended up showing up right as the races started and I am so grateful I ended up going.  I would have really felt I missed out if I had stayed home in bed - sick.

There were some really awesome cars there.  A police car that even lit up!  Some of the paint jobs were real intricate and you could tell a lot of time was put into these.  Corbin's car raced for four races and in the end he won 3rd place for speed.  His car was one of the fastest out of about 40 cars!  He ended up winning a trophy.  It was so unexpected and an exciting reward for all their hard work.  Even if they didn't win a trophy it would have all been worth it but that was the icing on the cake.

We took him out to a special lunch afterwards.  It was a joyful day!

Here's his car at the finish line

Happy times!
